Fund Creation
Investing In Our Future
Creating a New Fund
There are a variety of ways to structure a legacy to make a passion an enduring gift to the residents of Montgomery County. The endowment fund can memorialize or honor someone or a family who has been important to the donor or the community. Take a minute to consider the following options and contact Julie Martineau at jmatineau@mccfoundation.org to begin discussions.
Agency Endowment Agreement
Donor-Advised Funds
A donor-advised fund gives donors the opportunity to actively participate in the philanthropic process by reviewing grant requests and recommending charitable organizations/programs to receive grants. Donors enjoy the benefits of recommending grants that fulfill their charitable wishes, without the expense and obligation of administration. The Foundation’s Board of Directors is legally responsible for approving all grants.
Agency & Designation Agency Funds
Individuals and organizations who wish to create a fund for the benefit of a specific nonprofit organization or program can create a designated agency fund. At the time the initial gift is made, the donor designates the charity or charities that will receive the fund’s distributions. Distributions are paid to the designated organization or program as long as it is in existence. In the event the designated organization ceases to exist, becomes obsolete or is unable to perform its charitable purposes, monies from the fund can be redirected to an organization which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, best perpetuates the donor’s original intent.
Unrestricted Funds
Donors establishing or adding to unrestricted funds recognize that our community’s needs and opportunities change over time. These funds provide flexible resources needed to support innovative responses to address the community’s most pressing needs. The Foundation’s Distribution Committee and Board of Directors oversee the use of these funds, directing them to projects that most significantly contribute to the welfare of residents of Montgomery County.
Scholarship Funds
Scholarship funds are set up to assist young adults from Montgomery County in reaching their personal goals and dreams through higher education or technical training.
Field of Interest Funds
Through field of interest funds, donors support a particular interest area such as the arts, children and youth, health and wellness, neediest families or senior citizens. Use of the fund is restricted to the donor’s designated causes, but flexibility remains to meet changing community needs.
